Box, the leading content cloud, has announced a significant step forward in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into enterprise content, offering a new plugin for Microsoft’s AI-powered productivity tool, Microsoft 365 CoPilot. The announcement also includes updates to existing integrations between Box and Microsoft 365, delivering enhanced features for sharing, editing, and collaborating within Microsoft Teams and Office products.
Box has long recognized the potential impact of AI on enterprise content. “We’re at the start of a new era in software driven by breakthroughs in AI, and nowhere is the potential impact greater than in enterprise content,” said Diego Dugatkin, Chief Product Officer at Box.
The Box plugin for Microsoft 365 CoPilot aims to make Box files within an organization more useful and valuable. Instead of spending time searching for information in files and folders saved across Microsoft and Box, users will be able to leverage the Box Content Cloud through interactions with Microsoft 365 CoPilot. The integration promises to allow users to quickly synthesize and summarize shared Box documents in Teams, ask questions of shared content, and limit the need to scroll through Chats and Channels to get updated more swiftly on conversations and new learnings.
Box has also released several enhancements to its broader Teams integration. The improvements aim to streamline collaboration by allowing users to share and edit Box Notes directly in Team’s Chats and Channels, grant instant permissions to synchronize user access to files across Box and Teams, and select Box as the default cloud content management solution in the Teams environment.
Box for Microsoft Office desktop co-authoring has also been extended to customers in the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel as part of Microsoft’s Version 2302 release. This new capability promises to offer more flexibility for real-time collaboration on files in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel desktop apps — with all edits auto-saved back to Box.

Microsoft 365 CoPilot is a new AI tool designed to work alongside users in Microsoft 365 apps, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. It can understand natural language commands and prompts and turn them into actions or outputs.
Box will roll out its plugin for Microsoft 365 CoPilot as Microsoft makes its service available to eligible customers. The new integrations underscore the importance of AI in transforming the way businesses work and the increasing role of AI in enhancing productivity and collaboration in the workplace.
