Yesterday, Microsoft provided an update on its Windows client roadmap. Microsoft revealed new information on Windows 11 version 23H2 and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021.

Windows 11 version 23H2:

Microsoft has revealed that the upcoming Windows 11 version 23H2 will be sharing the same servicing branch and code base as Windows 11 version 22H2. So, for PCs running Windows 11 version 22H2, Windows 11 version 23H2 will be delivered as a simple update via a small enablement package (eKB). Also, since both versions share the same source code, there won’t be application or device compatibility issues between the versions.

Microsoft recommends organizations to roll out Windows 11 version 22H2 now and then roll out 23H2 enablement package via one of the following when it becomes available later this year:

  • Windows Server Update Services
  • Windows Update for Business
  • Windows Autopatch

Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021:

Until now, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 was available only through direct licensing from OEMs. Based on the feedback from customers, Microsoft is now offering Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 through Volume Licensing starting August 1st.
