If you love sharing text content on Instagram, you’ll be happy to know that Meta has released a new app called Threads. Threads is a standalone app similar to Twitter that lets you quickly and easily share text messages and join public conversations. To get started, you can use your Instagram account to login, and you can follow all the people you already follow on Instagram in one tap. Your Instagram username and verification will carry over to Threads.
You can set your Threads profile to be either public or private. For people under the age of 16, the default profile state will be private.
Unfortunately, your Threads feed will contain both AI recommendations and the content from the people you follow. Hopefully, Threads will add an option to filter out this content in the future.
In Threads, you will be able to post content, which is up to 500 characters long, include links, photos and videos up to 5 mins in length. You can also share your Threads post to Instagram Story.
You can control who can mention you on or reply to within Threads. You can add words to filter our replies to your Threads that contain specific words.
In the future, Threads will be compatible with ActivityPub, the open social networking protocol.
Threads is now available globally in over 100 countries for both iOS and Android devices. To start using Threads, download the app from the App Store or Google Play, and log in with your Instagram account.
