During the FTC v. Microsoft trial that is happening this week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella blamed Sony for console exclusives. Satya is not a fan of exclusive games on consoles, but since Sony has built the business around console exclusives, Xbox is forced to follow the same business practice to compete with the market leader Sony.
Here’s what he said during the trial:
If it was up to me, I would love to get rid of the entire exclusives on consoles, but that’s not for me to define especially as a low share player in the console market. The dominant player there has defined market competition using exclusives, so that’s the world we live in. I have no love for that world.
Playing Halo, Gears of War and Forza on PlayStation, or Horizon Forbidden, The Last of Us and Spiderman on Xbox would be incredible! But this is a dream that will never come true while Sony is in the console gaming market.
