Meta Quest 2

Early this month, Meta announced that it will improve the performance of Quest 2 VR headsets via future updates. Meta today announced v55 update with this much-awaited performance improvement and other new features.

With this upcoming update, Quest 2 and Pro will see an up-to 26% CPU performance increase with an up-to 19% GPU speed increase for Quest 2 and 11% for Quest Pro. Meta is also enabling Dynamic Resolution Scaling for both Quest 2 and Pro, so games and apps can take advantage of increased pixel density without dropping frames.

Messenger Gets a Standalone VR App: This update helps you connect seamlessly across any surface, whether it’s 2D (mobile, web, desktop) or 3D. Use your voice to hang out with those who matter most or express yourself through personalized avatars. Messenger lets you choose from a variety of different avatars, which you can customize with different clothing, accessories, and hairstyles to better represent yourself.

Your New and Improved Explore: The new Explore brings together short-form videos, media content, and more, all in one convenient place. You can also watch Instagram and Facebook Reels to keep VR fresh with content relevant to your passions and interests.

Improved Eye tracking: Meta has improved eye tracking on Quest Pro to make it more accurate across a broader field of view and during expressions like winking. For the most accurate eye tracking, you can always recalibrate by going to Movement Tracking in Settings, then Eye tracking, then Calibrate eye tracking.

Meta recently announced that it is lowering the price of Quest 2 to $299.99 USD. The 128GB SKU will cost $299.99 and the 256GB SKU will cost $349.99.
