Last week, Apple announced Apple Vision Pro, a new mixed reality headset. Apple Vision Pro offers a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by user’s eyes, hands, and voice. This device is powered by visionOS, Apple’s spatial operating system.
Unfortunately, Huawei owns the “Vision Pro” trademark in China. The trademark was assigned to Huawei on May 16, 2019, and the company has exclusive rights to its use from November 28, 2021 to November 27, 2031.
Huawei has been using Vision name for its products for several years now. Under Vision branding, Huawei has smartphones, monitors, TVs and more. So, Apple can’t sell its mixed reality headset under Vision Pro name in China for now.
Similar to how they did for “iPad” trademark in China, Apple should negotiate with Huawei for the “Vision” trademark.
