Back in March, we reported that Meta is exploring the creation of a text-based social network to compete with Twitter. The app, codenamed Project 92, will allow users to log in through their existing Instagram credentials.
Today, Meta’s Chief Product Officer, revealed more details about this upcoming app in an internal all-hands meeting at Meta. This new Twitter competitor from Meta is built on ActivityPub, the decentralized social media protocol and the public name could be ‘Threads’.
As you can notice from the screenshot above, the app looks a lot like comments section of Instagram.
“We’ve been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run, that they believe that they can trust and rely upon for distribution,” said CHRIS COX.
Meta is already in discussions with celebrities including DJ Slime, Oprah and the Dalai Lama for its new Threads platform.
