Apple has acquired Mira, a technology company specializing in AR software and hardware. Mira AR helps businesses empower their organization through AR. Mira AR is smartphone-powered, so it offers a cost-effective solution when compared to existing AR solutions like HoloLens and MagicLeap. The heads-up display in the Mira Prism Headset uses a gaze and dwell interface. If you can look at something, you can use Mira AR.
Built on this desire to bring AR to the masses, when we couldn’t find an economical solution, we built and patented our own proprietary display technology to ensure cost would never be a hurdle to widespread adoption. – MIRA
Apple did not discuss their purpose or plans of this acquisition. Mira’s AR solution is already used for Mario Kart rides in Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Hollywood. Mira also won some US military contracts for its AR solution.
