AMD Ryzen 7040U processors

AMD today announced the new Ryzen Mobile 7040U series processors for thin and light laptops. This new Ryzen Mobile 7040U processors are built on TSMC’s 4 nm process node and Zen 4 architecture to offer improved performance and efficiency. There are four processors in the Ryzen Mobile 7040U lineup. The flagship processor in this series will feature 8-cores and 16-threads. All the processors in this lineup will include AMD Radeon 700M graphics based on RDNA 3 architecture and AMD Ryzen AI based on AMD XDNA architecture from Xilinx.

AMD claims that this new Ryzen Mobile 7040U series deliver better performance than both Apple M2 and latest gen Intel Core i-series processors.

Thanks to Radeon 780M graphics, AMD claims that Ryzen 7 7840U will deliver up to 139% better performance than Intel Core i7-1360P with Iris Xe graphics.

When it comes to application performance, Ryzen 7 7840U will deliver up to 75% better performance than Apple M2.

In media encode benchmark, Ryzen 7 7840U will deliver up to 128% better performance than Intel Core i7-1360P with Iris Xe graphics.

When it comes to battery life, AMD did not provide any numbers, but mentioned that improved Smart Power Management will deliver great battery life.

Windows laptops based on Ryzen Mobile 7040U series processors will be available in the market starting next quarter.
