Microsoft Edge, the proprietary, cross-platform web browser created by Microsoft, is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to customize their browsing experience. Microsoft observer Leopeva64 recently discovered this upcoming update, which will enable users to remove certain features in the Edge browser to optimize its performance.

In a tweet, Leopeva64 shared a screenshot of the new Microsoft Edge settings screen. The updated settings page reads:

“Choose your own features with Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge now lets you turn off optional browser features so as to make it the fastest browsing experience for you. Features that are turned off are still available to you but will require a small download to enable.”

Leopeva64 speculated about the possibility of more features being added in the future, such as games or an “E-tree.”

This new feature is a part of Microsoft’s continued efforts to enhance the performance and user experience of its Edge browser. Initially released in 2015 as part of Windows 10 and Xbox One, Edge has since been ported to other platforms, including Android, iOS, macOS, and Linux. The browser was first built using Microsoft’s proprietary browser engine, EdgeHTML, and their Chakra JavaScript engine. In 2020, Microsoft Edge was rebuilt as a Chromium-based browser, utilizing the Blink and V8 engines.

Microsoft Edge offers various built-in features designed to boost browsing experience, optimize performance, enhance gaming, improve productivity, and bolster security. Some popular features include Startup boost, Efficiency mode, Clarity Boost, Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password monitor, Collections, and vertical tabs.

The upcoming update demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to providing a personalized browsing experience for its users. By allowing users to turn off optional browser features, Microsoft Edge aims to become the fastest and most efficient browser tailored to individual preferences.
