Bing Preview App Update: Enhanced Travel and Recipe Grounding Features Revealed

Microsoft’s Bing Preview app continues to gain momentum, with over 1 million users joining the waitlist within 48 hours of its launch. The AI-powered platform has delivered better search results, more comprehensive answers, a new chat experience, and the ability to generate content. In response to user feedback, Microsoft has introduced new updates to the Bing Preview app, including improvements to travel and recipe grounding.

According to the Bing Team’s blog post on April 28, 2023, the latest update improves travel and recipe grounding features. Bing chat now provides better answers when users ask questions about travel or recipes. The update has improved the accuracy of citations for both topics. For recipes, the enhanced grounding data is sourced from recipe content providers, ensuring that citations direct users to the recipe site instead of Bing.com. The Bing Team expects to make further grounding improvements based on user feedback.

The update also addresses end-of-conversation triggers, working to resolve cases where Bing chat unnecessarily ends conversations, such as saying, “I’m sorry, but I prefer not to continue this conversation,” or, “It might be time to move on to a new topic.” The latest update reduces some of the most egregious scenarios where this occurred. Additionally, a bug has been fixed that prevented Bing chat in the Edge Sidebar from recognizing the content in the browser’s active tab.

Microsoft’s Bing Preview app has experienced impressive growth, with over 100 million daily active users. Although Google still dominates the search engine landscape, Bing is quickly becoming a powerful alternative. Approximately one-third of daily Preview users are using Chat, with an average of three chats per session and over 45 million total chats since the Preview began. Furthermore, the Bing mobile app has seen a 6x increase in daily active users from pre-launch levels.

The Bing Team encourages users to provide feedback to further refine and improve the platform, as they remain committed to delivering the next generation of search and a trusted copilot for the web. Users can try sample queries and sign up for the waitlist to gain full access to the new Bing Preview app.
