Google today announced one of the most requested features of its Google Authenticator app. Google Authenticator finally adds support for Google Accounts synchronization and it works across both iOS and Android. Also, you can now securely backup your one-time codes (also known as one-time passwords or OTPs) to your Google Account.
Storing one-time passwords allows users to be protected from lockout and that services can rely on users retaining access. Google is also working with industry partners and the FIDO Alliance to support passkeys.
You can download the new Authenticator with Google Account synchronization from Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
While we’re pushing towards a passwordless future, authentication codes remain an important part of internet security today, so we’ve continued to make optimizations to the Google Authenticator app. –
