Bing Image Creator is now live for everyone in the new Bing Chat experience

Microsoft Bing Image Creator

Early this week, Microsoft announced that it is integrating DALL∙E-powered Bing Image Creator in the new Bing chat experience. This feature is now live for everyone who have access to the new Bing preview. As announced during the launch, this feature will be available only in the Creative mode. With this integration, you can generate both written and visual content in one place, from within Bing chat.

To try out this feature, in Bing chat, you can type description of an image, providing additional context like location or activity, and choosing an art style, Image Creator will generate an image from your own imagination. You can type something like “draw an image” or “create an image” as a prompt in chat to get creating a visual. Every query will give you up to 4 images to choose from. You can also download the created images. For the best results, you should include a subject, details and the scene.

Bing Image Creator was released several months back. So why Microsoft didn’t directly integrate it into Bing chat? Here are a few reasons:

  • Microsoft wants to make sure that they can prohibit the use of Image Creator to produce content that can inflict harm on individuals or society. To implement this, Microsoft has blocked certain prompts and images. But Bing may result in over blocking some images, so Microsoft has built an appeal process to improve their classifiers.
  • Microsoft was waiting for an improved model from OpenAI. The latest model from OpenAI increased the quality of the images with more detail and understands more visual concepts.
  • Microsoft improved the Prometheus model to interact with Image Creator in a multi-turn fashion.

Bing Image Creator preview will also be available in Microsoft Edge. You can click the Bing Image Creator icon in the sidebar to create your image or invoke from Bing chat in Edge.
