Microsoft shocks developers by increasing the pricing of Bing Search APIs by up to 10x

Microsoft Bing Search APIs pricing increase

Microsoft Bing Search APIs allows developers to build web-connected apps and services that find webpages, images, news, videos, and more without advertisements. It includes Bing Web Search API, Bing Image Search API, Bing News Search API and more.

Today, Microsoft sent shockwaves to the developers who rely on Microsoft Bing Search APIs by announcing price increase. This is not a usual nominal price increase update. With the new changes, pricing of some of the APIs have gone up to 10x. Yes, 10x.

Take a look at some of the price changes:

  • Bing Web Search on S1 instance which used to cost $7 per 1,000 transactions will now cost $25 per 1,000 transactions.
  • Bing Web Search on S6 instance which used to cost $3 per 1,000 transactions will now cost $15 per 1,000 transactions.
  • Optional Bing Statistics Add-in which used to cost $1 per 1,000 transactions will now cost $10 per 1,000 transactions.

Microsoft now also offers Bing APIs with large language models with the following pricing:

Tier 1: less than 1M requests per day Tier 2: over 1M requests per day
$28.00 per 1,000 transactions $200.00 per 1,000 transactions

The above pricing equates to $0.028/query for less than 1M requests/day and a whopping $.20/query for over 1M requests/day.
