A sizable portion of the Chromebook users in the education sector depend on Microsoft 365 services including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneDrive for their productivity needs. Right now, these users use the Progressive Web App for their Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel needs.
Recently, Google announced that they are working on a new integration on ChromeOS, making it easier to install the Office apps and open files stored on OneDrive. This new integration will be available later this year.
As part of this integration, users will be offered a guided setup experience that takes them through the process of installing the Microsoft 365 web app and connecting Microsoft OneDrive to their Chromebook Files app.
This new Microsoft 365 integration on ChromeOS is coming to dev and beta channels very soon.
