Microsoft will begin a phased rollout of EU Data Boundary solution from January 1, 2023

Microsoft Sonic Azure

Microsoft today announced that it will begin a phased rollout of its EU Data Boundary solution to public sector and commercial customers in the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) from January 1, 2023.

With this availability, Microsoft Cloud customers will have the ability to store and process their customer data within the EU Data Boundary for Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform and Dynamics 365 services. This expands on Microsoft’s existing local storage and processing commitments. This new EU Data Boundary solution will reduce the data flowing out of Europe.

The Microsoft EU Data Boundary is designed to build on Microsoft’s current residency solutions and offer enhanced control over data and increased transparency.

Microsoft will publish detailed documentation on its Boundary commitments in the near future. Microsoft will also publish Transparency documentation. You will find the transparency documentation, including data flow descriptions, in the new EU Data Boundary Trust Center.

It is important to note that Microsoft’s cloud services already comply with or exceed EU requirements. This new EU Data Boundary solution will further allow public sector and commercial customers in the EU and EFTA to have their data processed and stored within the European region.
