At GitHub Universe 2022, GitHub announced several new capabilities and improvements across its entire platform to enable better developer experience. GitHub announced two major updates to GitHub Copilot. GitHub Copilot is an AI pair programmer that uses OpenAI Codex to suggest code and entire functions in real time.
First, GitHub Copilot is coming to businesses. When it becomes available, businesses can purchase and manage seat licenses for GitHub Copilot for their employees.
Second, GitHub is introducing a new way to interact with GitHub Copilot. Instead of mouse and keyboard, you can now say “Hey, GitHub!” for voice-based interaction. This brings benefits of GitHub Copilot to developers who have difficulty typing using their hands.
“Hey, GitHub!” reduces the need for a keyboard when coding within VS Code for now, but GitHub has plans to expand the capabilities. You can join the waitlist here.
