Microsoft Defender identity theft monitoring

Microsoft today announced a new additional benefit for Microsoft 365 subscribers in the US. Microsoft has partnered with Experian to bring identity theft monitoring to Microsoft Defender. This feature will allow users to monitor their own and their family identity details, for breaches on both the public internet and the dark web. The best part about this new service is that it offers up to $1 million in insurance to cover users against losses related to identity theft. Yes, theft insurance for your online identity.

If Microsoft Defender spots a user’s personal details in a breach, the user will receive an alert and a detailed breach report. Microsoft Defender will also offer recommendations on what to do, details on how this might have happened, information on the possible risks, and more. Users can also avail the 24/7 phone access to a team of highly skilled identity theft professionals.

Identity theft monitoring can monitor these personal details:

  • Email addresses
  • Passwords
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
