Spotify Audiobooks

Today, Spotify announced the availability of more than 300,000 audiobook titles for users in the US. With the addition of audiobooks, Spotify has become an all-in-one destination for everyone’s audio listening needs. Also, Spotify app now features audiobooks with a brand-new user interface and fits them seamlessly alongside the music and podcasts.

Here’s how the Spotify Audiobooks experience works:

  • Audiobooks will show up with a lock icon on the play button, signaling that they need to be purchased in order to listen.
  • Users who discover audiobooks in the Spotify app will be able to purchase them on a web page.
  • Upon returning to Spotify, the book will be automatically saved in their library and available to listen to whenever they want.

Audiobooks can be downloaded for offline listening, and the automatic bookmarking feature allows you to easily pick up where you left off. Speed control offers a variety of options to speed up or slow down the pace. There is also a rating feature that displays the aggregate rating of the book.

Just as we did with podcasting, this will introduce a new format to an audience that has never before consumed it, unlocking a whole new segment of potential listeners.
