Microsoft announces revamped OneNote app for Android devices

Microsoft OneNote Android app

Microsoft yesterday revealed all the details about the upcoming refresh to the OneNote app on Android devices. The main change in this upcoming update is the new Home tab that will allow you to capture naturally with text, voice, ink, and camera, and keep track of your notes with rich note preview cards.

The new Home page will have recent Notebook pages, Sticky Notes, and Samsung Notes in a single unified view. You can long press on the items to take a quick action. Also, OneNote will allow you to switch between Grid view to see more notes at the same time) and List view (to see more detail on each note card).

You can also arrange the notes on the Home tab based on your need and you can sort your notes by Updated Date, Created Date or Alphabetically, and use the filter options to filter notes by note type, Notebook Page, Sticky Note, Samsung Note, or by signed in account.

The new quick capture bar at the bottom of the page allows will offer the following:

  • The upgraded Microsoft Lens integration to allow you to choose from a range of new filters and image editing tools. You can scan a document and extract text directly onto your note.
  • Voice dictation allows you to dictate your notes in a number of languages (9 official, 18 preview). You can also use voice commands to format your notes.
  • Clicking on the overflow menu (three vertical dots button) allows you to take a Sticky Note directly from the Home tab.

These new improvements are now available in OneNote for Android build 16.0.15128.20270 and later.
