Microsoft to acquire Miburo, a cyber threat analysis and research company

Microsoft today announced that it will acquire Miburo, a cyber threat analysis and research company. Miburo is known for detecting foreign information operations and they can detect and attribute malign and extremist influence campaigns across 16 languages.

According to Miburo’s website, here’s what they have been offering till date:

  • Analysis: Miburo’s research teams detect and attribute malign and extremist influence campaigns across more than ten languages, offering clients rapid assessments informed by cultural understanding and geopolitical realities.
  • Consulting: Miburo’s team leverages decades of experience in academia, government and the private sector to help companies develop proactive strategies for mitigating risks from cyberspace.
  • Training: Miburo has developed and delivered in-person and online instruction to tens of thousands of law enforcement, military, intelligence and cyber security professionals providing strategic understanding and tactical tools for mitigating cyber, social media, and terrorist threats.

After the acquisition, Miburo will become part of Microsoft’s Customer Security and Trust organization. Miburo team will work with the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center, data scientists and others.

Microsoft believes that Miburo’s acquisition will expand its threat detection and analysis capabilities to address new cyber-attacks and find the ways in which foreign actors use information operations along with other cyber-attacks to achieve their objectives.
