Apple today announced the iOS 16 with several new features including the all-new lock screen, and more. Find the details below.

All new lock screen:

The iOS 16 brings all-new lock screen experience. Fully customizable with widgets, themes, etc. You can even change the font of the time that is getting displayed on the lock screen. If you are coming from Android, there is nothing new for you here. Using WidgetKit, developers can write lock screen widgets for the new iOS 16 lock screen. Live Activities API for app developers to display live information on the lock screen.

Focus filters:

New Focus Filter API allows developers to offer a distinct experience for users when they are in Focus mode.

iMessage improvements:

  • Undo send
  • Unread messages

SharePlay:

  • SharePlay is now supported in iMessages.

New Dictation experience:

  • You can now use voice and touch together.
  • Automatically adds punctuation, emoji, etc.
  • Works completely offline.

Live Text in video:

  • You can now pause a video and copy text content in that frame.
  • Live Text can translate anything pointed via camera.
  • Remove objects from an image and place them in any app. For example, you can select a particular person’s phone from a group photo with a simple tap.

Apple Wallet:

  • 11 additional states are working on bringing driving license support to Apple Wallet.
  • You can now share Apple Wallet Keys with others using messaging apps.

ApplePay Later:

  • 4 equal payments
  • zero interest and payments.

Apple Pay Order tracking will allow you to track your ordered items within the Apple Wallet app.

Apple Maps:

  • New Apple Maps coming to 11 new countries including France, New Zealand and more.
  • Multistop routing support
  • Transit fares support and the ability to add transit cards.
  • LookAround API support for app developers

Apple News:

  • New MySports section to get scores, schedule, news and more. This is free.

Family Sharing:

  • Easier to manage accounts for kids.
  • Screen time requests in Messages
  • Family checklist

Photos:

  • iCloud Shared Photo Library like Google Photos shared albums.
  • Sharing suggestions like Google Photos

Apple Home app:

  • Redesigned from the ground up with new home screen and more.

Apple CarPlay:

  • Next gen Car Play that is integrated with car’s instrument cluster.
  • Can adapt to any type of screen sizes and variants.
  • Works directly with car’s real time info.
  • Can control car’s hardware like AC, lights, etc.
