Microsoft Windows 11 Auto HDR

Microsoft today announced new improvements to the Auto HDR experience on Windows 11 PCs with the latest Game Bar update. Auto HDR upgrades from SDR to HDR to offer a richer visual experience on already-released games. Read about the new improvements below.

The new Auto HDR intensity slider allows you to control how vivid and bright you want the colors in your game. If you drag it all the way to the left, you have the minimum intensity, and if you drag the slider all the way to the right, you will have full intensity of Auto HDR.

Here’s how you can use the intensity slider:

  • Go to the Xbox Game Bar, then click the Settings button.
  • Within Settings, click on the Gaming features section.
  • Within that section you will see a button that says ‘Adjust HDR Intensity.’ When you click on that button a pop-up window with an intensity slider will appear.
  • You can also pin it down by pressing the pin button at the top right.
  • You can set a certain level of intensity for Auto HDR for a particular game, and it will not affect Auto HDR settings of other games.

You can now turn on or off Auto HDR through the Xbox Game Bar, here’s how you can do it:

  • Open the Xbox Game Bar, then click the Settings button.
  • Within Settings, click on the Gaming features section.
  • Check the checkbox that says Use Auto HDR with supported games.

Also, Auto HDR now supports multi-discrete-GPU setups such as Nvidia’s Scalable Link Interface (SLI) and AMD’s CrossFire in DirectX12 games.

Finally, you can turn off Auto HDR notifications by following the below steps:

  • Go to Windows Settings app, then navigate to System, and then to Notifications.
  • In the list of Notifications from apps and other senders, find Auto HDR and switch the toggle to Off if you want the notifications off.
