Microsoft Outlook Windows sidebar

In Outlook for Windows, you will soon have a customizable sidebar that will allow you to easily open Outlook functions (email, calendar, tasks, and people) and other Microsoft services. Right now, you can switch between email, calendar, tasks and people using the shortcuts available below the folder pane. With the upcoming change, these icons are now displayed vertically to the left of the folder pane.

If your organization has licenses to other Microsoft 365 services (To Do, Org Explorer, Yammer Communities, and Bookings), you can quickly access them from the same area. You can also customize which apps you see there by right-clicking on your preferred Outlook functions and Microsoft 365 apps to pin them.

Outlook on the web, Office.com and Teams already have similar sidebar experience.

If you are running Office Insider Beta Channel build, you can try out this new feature by following the below steps:

  1. Turn on the Coming Soon toggle at the top-right corner of the app window.
  2. Restart Outlook.

This feature is rolling out to Microsoft 365 subscribers running the following builds for Windows:

  • Beta Channel users: Available by default in Version 2204 (Build 15109.20000) or later
  • Current Channel Preview users: Available by turning on the Coming Soon toggle in Version 2109 (Build 14430.20088) or later
