In the past, we have seen Microsoft aggressively pushing its own products and services through ads in other products. Recently, Windows Insider MVP Florian noticed that Microsoft is advertising its Microsoft Editor service in Windows 11’s File Explorer. As you can see from the image above, Microsoft has added a gray bar below the address bar to push Microsoft Editor.
This new behavior was noticed in the latest Windows Insider build, we are not sure whether Microsoft will enable it for general consumers in the future.
Following Florian’s report, another user reported about a different ad which invites users to check out the latest PowerPoint templates on Office.com.
Apple, another Big Tech company, advertises its own services in a similar way. Apple often displays ad for iCloud sign-up in iOS Settings app.
