Microsoft brings DirectStorage to Windows PCs with NVMe SSDs

Microsoft DirectStorage API Windows 11

Microsoft announced yesterday that Xbox Velocity Architecture’s DirectStorage API is coming to Windows PCs with NVMe SSD drives. Thanks to the IO system advancements that will come with DirectStorage APIs, you will be able to enjoy reduced game load times and more detailed and expansive games on Windows PCs. Microsoft is planning to release a development preview of DirectStorage for game developers next year.

Even though DirectStorage is compatible with Windows 10 devices, Windows 11 has the latest storage optimizations built in.

This API is the response to an evolving storage and IO landscape in PC gaming. DirectStorage will be supported on certain systems with NVMe drives and work to bring your gaming experience to the next level.
