Microsoft Azure for Operators allows telecom companies to build next-generation networks using intelligent cloud solutions based on Azure. Over the past few years, Microsoft is focused on delivering the complete solution for digital transformation journey of the telecom industry. Microsoft even made a couple of acquisition to realize its vision. On this front, Microsoft yesterday announced the next wave of Azure for Operators solutions and services.
- Azure Operator Distributed Services is a next-generation hybrid cloud platform for operators that combines the enhanced version of the operator technology acquired from AT&T with Azure’s security, monitoring, analytics, AI, machine learning, and more. Even though this service is built on top for AT&T’s technology, it is available for use by all operators while maintaining security and without losing differentiation.
- Private preview of the Azure Operator 5G Core that enables operators to build, deploy, and manage scalable mobile networks.
- Public preview of the Azure Private 5G Core, a packet core as-a-service that enables operators and system integrators to deploy enterprise private mobile networks and low latency applications on Azure Arc-connected edge platforms including Azure Stack Edge.
- Azure public MEC solution that combines Azure compute and services with mobile operator 5G connectivity. This will enable high-performance, low-latency applications at the operator edge.
What they are saying:
“Combining the high bandwidth and low latency of 5G with cloud and edge compute capabilities opens an entirely new world of opportunities for businesses and other organizations to serve their customers in new ways. This will enable entirely new use cases in manufacturing, retail, health care, automotive, touching virtually every industry vertical. AT&T’s collaboration with Microsoft is about enabling organizations to harness the power of 5G, cloud and edge quickly with the ability to scale on demand.”—Rasesh Patel, Executive Vice President, and Chief Product and Platform Officer, AT&T
